The Chicago White Sox have claimed a pitcher off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights.
Varland, a 27-year-old right-hander, previously played for the Dodgers with a 3.00 ERA in seven appearances before being transferred to Triple-A.
Varland has a 2-2 record with a 7.99 ERA in Triple-A in 2024 but has shown potential with 23 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched at that level.
