LaVar Ball leg amputated due to diabetes: 'Good to have my foot cut off as opposed to being dead'
Briefly

LaVar Ball candidly shares his struggles with health issues leading to the amputation of his foot, stemming from complications of diabetes. In a personal article, he reveals his initial despair and questioning of life during the recovery process after multiple surgeries and blood transfusions. He attributes his motivation to recover and stay strong to the support of his sons, who inspire him to persevere. Ball aims to utilize his experiences to advocate for better health management, encouraging others not to overlook their well-being as he once did.
I had an infection on my foot that started spreading through my blood due to not paying attention to my diabetes. I ended up having to get my leg amputated.
All those surgeries and blood transfusions made me question whether it was worth going through it sometimes. It made me think, 'Man, just kill me and let me go about my business.'
Seeing what my boys are doing out there, they're like, 'Dad you're the toughest dude I know.' That made me keep going.
I intend to use my platform to encourage others to look after their own well-being better than I did.
