The article reflects on the author's long history with Linux and package managers, reminiscing about the introduction of the Synaptic GUI for apt in 2001. Initially skeptical, the author embraced its user-friendly interface compared to command line installations. Although newer software centers have emerged, Synaptic is still favored in some Linux distributions. The piece provides practical guidance on installing and upgrading software using Synaptic, emphasizing its continued relevance and ease of use in the Linux ecosystem.
