For many applications, especially when starting out, localhost has all the functionality needed. As applications grow in complexity, various solutions like tunneling become necessary.
While working on mazaar.io, I needed to handle custom subdomains and interact with mobile devices, leading me to utilize a Cloudflare Tunnel for seamless integration.
Adding social logins like Facebook and Google improved signup conversion rates, but they require a public HTTPS URL, prompting a reassessment of my development approach.
Through evaluating various options, I found that despite growing complexity, localhost can still meet many needs, especially when used with modern browser capabilities.
