How to paint the perfect shadow
Briefly

Shadows are often the source of most of the mistakes in students' early artworks, but when handled properly, they can add tremendous atmosphere and impact.
It's important we understand how to approach shadows without destroying the overriding unity, as overdoing them can lead to a broken-up look overall.
One common mistake is making reflected lights too bright, confusing shadows with lights and resulting in an undesired extra light source in our work.
Reflected lights can often be ignored without losing much in the final art, leading to a more powerful work if included subtly.
