Volkswagen's software unit, Cariad, left access to terabytes of customer data exposed online for months, affecting around 800,000 vehicles and presenting severe privacy concerns.
Security researchers reported that the exposed data included precise location information for over 460,000 vehicles, with accuracy to within a few centimeters, primarily found across Europe.
Cariad addressed the software bug causing the data exposure and stated they have found no evidence of unauthorized access beyond that of the researchers who discovered it.
The incident highlights Cariad's ongoing struggles with major software delays and restructuring efforts, which have led to significant job losses across the company.
