The U.S. Treasury Department reported a serious cybersecurity breach attributed to a Chinese state-sponsored hacker, exposing vulnerabilities within third-party software services.
Treasury was informed on December 8 by a third-party provider, BeyondTrust, that hackers accessed an essential key for a cloud service used in remote technical support.
The Chinese embassy denounced U.S. accusations as unfounded, urging the U.S. to halt its campaign of disinformation regarding the purported Chinese hacking threats.
BeyondTrust, involved in the breach, has contracts exceeding $4 million with multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Defense and Justice.
