Federal prosecutors charged Thalha Jubair, 19, with conspiracy to commit computer fraud and related offenses linked to intrusions of 47 U.S. companies that yielded more than $115 million in ransomware payments. The charges identify Scattered Spider as an English-language group that breached numerous corporate networks and extorted victims by threatening to publish or sell stolen data. U.K. authorities charged Jubair and alleged member Owen Flowers in a Transport for London cyberattack. Both suspects were arrested and remanded to appear in Crown Court on October 16. Prosecutors allege additional attacks on SSM Health Care and an attempted breach of Sutter Health. Jubair also faces charges for refusing to provide PINs and passwords for seized devices.
