The detained individuals originally entered South Africa in April, misrepresenting themselves as security guard trainees on their visa applications. The suspected camp featured green military-style tents, indicating a significant setup for illegal military activities.
Although no weapons or illegal substances were immediately found, authorities continued their search on the premises. The detained Libyan nationals were in civilian clothing and were being questioned for contravening immigration laws.
The police are also investigating other potential illegal military training sites in the area, adjacent to Mozambique and Eswatini. The group, once processed, is expected to be deported back to Libya.
