The FBI has successfully dismantled a massive botnet, Raptor Train, which was used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to attack various sectors in the US and Taiwan.
The network comprised predominantly of home routers and IoT devices, at its height, featured over 60,000 compromised devices, making it the largest China state botnet uncovered.
The attacks leveraged a three-tier system to operate efficiently, using IP addresses with good reputations to evade scrutiny from security defenses.
Raptor Train represents the second major Chinese state-operated botnet dismantled by US authorities in 2023, highlighting the ongoing cyber threat from nation-state actors.
