The malware, which operates stealthily by requesting seemingly harmless app permissions, has been found in apps that appear legitimate, including food delivery and AI chat apps. SparkCat's defining feature is its ability to perform optical character recognition (OCR) to identify sensitive information from users' photo libraries. This discovery raises concerns over the security of app marketplaces, as it is the first known case of OCR spyware in Apple's App Store.
