Authorities across 19 African countries executed a joint effort known as Operation Serengeti that led to the arrest of 1,006 suspects linked to cybercrime. This large-scale operation, which took place from September 2 to October 31, successfully dismantled over 134,000 malicious infrastructures and networks. It focused on various cybercrimes including ransomware and business email compromise, revealing the significant impact of these illegal activities on victims and financial systems.
The operation identified over 35,000 victims and detected nearly USD 193 million in financial losses globally, shedding light on the scale and severity of cyber threats in Africa. The intensive collaboration allowed participating nations to produce 65 Cyber Analytical Reports, ensuring that the operation remained intelligence-led and targeted the most significant cybercrime actors across the continent.
