Hackers linked to Hamas accused of cyberespionage in Palestine
Briefly

Hackers linked to Hamas conducted cyberespionage campaigns in Palestine and Egypt with trojanized apps. ESET research detected AridSpy, a multistage Android spyware used in the attacks.
ESET attributed the campaigns to the Arid Viper APT group, known for targeting the Middle East since 2013. The group deploys various malware across Android, iOS, and Windows platforms.
Arid Viper, also identified as APT-C-23, Desert Falcons, or Two-tailed Scorpion, has been linked to Hamas in the past. It targets Israel, Palestine, and beyond, suggesting a geopolitical agenda.
The cyberespionage techniques by the hackers allow spying on messaging apps and exfiltrating content. ESET's research found ongoing campaigns since 2022, emphasizing techniques over political ties.
