Hackers could spy on cellphone users by abusing 5G baseband flaws, researchers say | TechCrunch

Using a custom-made analysis tool called 5GBaseChecker, the researchers found vulnerabilities in Samsung, MediaTek, and Qualcomm basebands used in Google, OPPO, OnePlus, Motorola, and Samsung phones.

By exploiting these vulnerabilities, hackers could perform silent attacks such as pretending to be a friend for phishing, directing victims to malicious sites, or downgrading victims to older protocols for easier eavesdropping.
