Elon Musk's China ties make a bad situation worse
Briefly

In the early weeks of Donald Trump's second term, Elon Musk appears to have unprecedented control over governmental power through his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Controversially, Musk's team has been granted access to a critical treasury payment system, which raises legal and security concerns. Critics, including notable Senators, are alarmed by Musk's team of inexperienced engineers manipulating sensitive federal systems without security clearance. They fear this lawlessness may go unchecked, especially given Musk's business ties to China, potentially compromising U.S. cybersecurity.
Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden asked the Government Accountability Office on Tuesday to open an inquiry into Bessent's granting DOGE access to the Treasury payment system.
I can think of no good reason why political operators who have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law would need access to these sensitive, mission-critical systems.
