On any visit to the national parliament or government buildings of another state the level of security provided to lawmakers is very notable, especially when compared to how we do things in Ireland.

There are generally heavily armed police everywhere you look. There are usually several thorough security checks before you can enter any building of importance. Bags are rifled through, and electronic devices scanned for any threats they may cause.
