Microsoft's digital crimes team, alongside the Justice Department, has successfully seized 100 domains linked to the Russia-backed hacking group Star Blizzard, notorious for targeting civil society organizations.
Steven Masada noted, 'This frequency underscores the group's diligence in identifying high-value targets, crafting personalized phishing emails, and developing the necessary infrastructure for credential theft.'
Star Blizzard, tied to Russia's Federal Security Service, has been targeting a diverse array of institutions, expanding their activities significantly in 2022, including attacks on U.S. Department of Energy facilities.
With 82 Microsoft customers attacked at a rate of one per week, the group's phishing tactics involve personalized emails that trick victims into compromising their credentials.
