Asus lets chip fix slip out early, AMD says patch is inbound
Briefly

AMD has acknowledged a microcode-related security vulnerability affecting its processors, first surfaced following a beta BIOS update from Asus. This type of vulnerability pertains to the microcode signature verification, potentially enabling the loading of unauthorized microcode into affected processors. Normally, this microcode is proprietary to the manufacturer, creating a controlled environment for CPU functionality. While the vulnerability does not appear to be critical, the method of its discovery and the implications regarding system security are concerning, particularly as it pertains to processes that typically require high-level access for modifications.
Crucially, the format of the microcode is usually proprietary to the maker of the processor, meaning users can't create or customize their own microcode.
