Ulysses Jenkins (1946-2026), A Black Radical Imagination
Briefly

Ulysses Jenkins (1946-2026), A Black Radical Imagination
"Kodwo's ears perked up, and we spent the rest of the evening talking about Ulysses and my future plans as a curator."
"I do think that you should form a group with your friends, direct new videos, programme films that mean a lot to you."
"Ulysses showed in and showed up to the many exhibitions and film programs that were foundational for my work."
"I opened my first-ever exhibition-'a/wake in the water: Meditations on Disaster' at Brooklyn's Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts."
In 2013, the Otolith Group's exhibition in Los Angeles inspired a budding curator who had a strong interest in Afrofuturism. A conversation with Kodwo Eshun led to encouragement to create and curate new video works. Ulysses Jenkins' contributions were pivotal, as his video work was featured in the curator's first exhibition in 2014, which focused on themes of disaster. Jenkins' support and presence in the art community were instrumental in the curator's development and success.
