The South Asians at the Oscars Pre-Oscar Party, hosted by prominent South Asian stars, underlines the increasing representation of South Asians in the film industry. Mindy Kaling, as a co-producer of the Oscar-nominated short film Anuja, emphasized the significance of the film and recognized the impact of South Asian artists. By sharing inspiring stories, actors and filmmakers are reshaping the portrayal of South Asians, particularly women, within the industry. The event was a celebration of progress and community that acknowledges the unique narratives being told.

[Anuja] has young women in incredibly challenging circumstances, but it is filled with joy. So much of the time, Indian people, South Asian people, we are portrayed in a certain light. I have spent so much of the last part of my career in trying to change that.
My art practice is rooted in the idea that we need to share the stories and voices of people who haven't been heard before, and of course, that means many women and children as well.
