Mel Gibson's 'Flight Risk' Is an Unmitigated Disaster
Briefly

'Flight Risk' is a comedic action film featuring Michelle Dockery as a U.S. Marshal tasked with transporting a fugitive to testify against the mob. The journey goes awry when Wahlberg, portraying an erratic pilot, intervenes. Set against the backdrop of Alaska, the film attempts to craft humor from absurd situations, including a mysterious government conspiracy that Dockery's character unwittingly unravels mid-flight. Directed by Mel Gibson, the film highlights both claustrophobic interiors of a plane and the snowy expanses outside, while showcasing an unexpected flirtation between Dockery and another pilot under dire circumstances.
In a desperate attempt to keep our attention, Dockery's marshal during the movie's latter third uncovers a conspiracy at the very top of the government using just her cellphone and natural suspicion.
Wahlberg is the most fascinating misfire. His character is listening to the New Order song 'Happy Mondays' when we meet him and the fact that this sleazebag sociopath is enjoying a British New Wave classic wasn't expected.
