Disney under fire for cutting this character from 'Lilo & Stitch' live-action remake: 'No excuses'
Briefly

Disney's live-action remake of 'Lilo & Stitch' has drawn criticism for cutting Captain Gantu, the animated film's villain. Director Dean Fleischer Camp explained that Gantu's inclusion didn't translate well to live action, emphasizing the need to focus on emotional storytelling between the sisters. While some fans defended the decision, others expressed outrage on social media, questioning why an important character could be excluded when aliens were effectively depicted. The debate continues regarding the balance between fidelity to original characters and adaptation choices in modern remakes.
Gantu was one of those things that just didn't work so well in live action. We explored it a bit, but ultimately we had to make the decision.
I feel like a lot of the things that, in trying to ground these characters more... you have to free up real estate to allow that breathing room to do those things.
That doesn't make any sense because if you can bring Stitch... to live-action form, then why not Captain Gantu?
Watched the movie last night. Not having Gantu didn't take away from the story or plot at all.
