"Marie Sherlock, Labour TD for Dublin Central, told the Irish Independent: "Max was an incredibly talented filmmaker and obviously this is devastating for the family. Our hearts go out to them." Sinn Féin councillor for Cabra Séamas McGrattan, said: "People are shocked. This was such a very young, talented man. He was only 17 when he won that film award. It's just a very sad loss.""
Max Hendrickson, from Cabra in north Dublin, was a 20-year-old filmmaker studying a BA in Film at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dun Laoghaire. He died in a tragedy alongside his Czech girlfriend. It was understood he was travelling on a scooter with his girlfriend when the crash occurred. Hendrickson had been named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year in 2023 at age 17. He had applied to the Fresh International Film Festival repeatedly since age 12, and his short animated film The Tell-Tale Heart retold Edgar Allan Poe’s story. He also received an Outstanding Animation award in 2018 at Ireland’s Junior Filmmaker of the Year. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade provided consular assistance.
