75 Years Ago, A Shockingly Dark Sci-Fi Adventure Tried To Predict The Space Race
Briefly

Before the Space Race, two films aimed for lunar glory: Destination Moon and Rocketship X-M. Despite strong marketing, Destination Moon faced delays, allowing Lippert Pictures to quickly produce Rocketship X-M on a tight budget. Released just 25 days post-filming, Rocketship X-M featured a cast including Beau Bridges and was notable for its rapid production. However, it lacked the visual and narrative depth of its predecessor, opting for a conventional adventure even as it tackled themes of gender bias, particularly towards its only female character, Dr. Lisa Van Horn.
Like the making of the movie itself, Rocketship X-M doesn't waste any time, thrusting its heroes into deep space just minutes after their pioneering mission to the Moon is announced.
Remarkably, the finished product rocketed into theaters just 25 days after shooting wrapped.
