"“Comedy is the reason that I wanted to be a performer,” says Walter. “It was why God put me on the planet - to make people laugh.” In her new standup special, she's standing on stage at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia. “There was a reason why we shot it in Philly,” says Walter. “Because they don't fake it there. If you're not funny, they let you know. They let you know when they love you.”"
"“There was a reason why we shot it in Philly,” says Walter. “Because they don't fake it there. If you're not funny, they let you know. They let you know when they love you.” There's another reason. Her “Abbott Elementary” co-star and dear friend Sheryl Lee Ralph had a vision. “She's like, girl, you're going to be on stage with red velvet drapes and a gold jacket. And it's going to be in Philadelphia,” says Walter."
"Cameras were rolling last summer at a sold-out show, with a room full of her real-deal Philly fans. “They're bringing the Philly energy,” Walter says. “I just feel so much genuine love from the people of Philadelphia.” To say Walter is having a moment is an understatement. “I feel like a million bucks,” she says. “I'm living the most charmed life right now.”"
Lisa Ann Walter has performed stand-up at Helium Comedy Club in Center City Philadelphia for several summers. Her new comedy special, “Lisa Ann Walter: It Was An Accident,” captures one of those performances. Friends, family, and Abbott Elementary co-stars celebrated her in New York City. Walter describes comedy as the reason she wanted to perform and says it has been a long time coming. She explains the special was shot in Philadelphia because audiences respond honestly and directly. She also credits Sheryl Lee Ralph’s vision for the Philadelphia setting. The show was filmed during a sold-out performance with real Philly fans, and Walter feels genuine love. She is also preparing for Abbott Elementary season 6 and making an off-Broadway debut in “Heathers.”
