Origin Tales of the Penobscot Nation
Briefly

The Penobscot Nation, part of the Wabanaki Confederacy, has lived in what is now Maine for over 12,000 years, calling themselves Penawahpkekeyak. They faced significant challenges following European contact, especially during the colonization era which led to a drastic population decline due to diseases and warfare. Despite their alliances and contributions in key conflicts like the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War, the Penobscot lost their lands and were relegated to Indian Island, where they continue to reside today.
The Penobscot are the people of the place of the white rocks, with a history dating back to 12,000 BCE, suffering greatly due to European contact.
Despite their significant contributions in wars and exploration, the Penobscot were ultimately confined to a reservation on Indian Island due to colonization.
