The Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon is striving to acquire one of only two pocket watches known to have belonged to Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England.
The timepiece has a delicately etched image of a hand with pointed finger, characteristic of a Puritan watch, which was an expensive status symbol at the time.
Cromwell bought the watch in 1647 when he moved to a home near the shop of its maker, William Clay, a prominent watchmaker of the 17th century.
According to family lore, Cromwell gifted the watch to John Blackwell, an officer and Deputy Treasurer at War, highlighting its significance and connection to Cromwell's life.
