Electrician Davide Renzoni uncovered stunning frescoes hidden behind a 19th-century vaulted ceiling while working on the 16th-century Villa Farnesina, revealing art from the Farnese era.
The villa, built for papal banker Agostino Chigi, houses exquisite frescoes by renown artists like Raphael. The newly found frescoes depict mythological themes and the Farnese coat of arms.
Commissioned by Abbot Giuseppe Melchiorri, the newly discovered frescoes include cherubs and scenes integrated with the villa’s architectural design, showcasing luxurious Renaissance artistry.
Despite major restoration from 1861 to 1863 altering the original configuration of the villa, the discovery highlights the historical significance and artistic value of the Farnesina's lost artworks.
