Amboy Road's transformation reflects changing face of Staten Island commerce | Then and Now
"STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The early 1932 view of Amboy Road, looking southwest from Giffords Lane in Great Kills, features stores on both sides of the street, with the J.A. Springstead Building on the left. Some visible businesses include R.C. Van Name Paints, Great Kills Savings & Loan Association, Syndicate 5 & 10 Cent Store, W.J. Dolan Real Estate, Henri's, and Brower's."
"Today, Amboy Road tells a different story, although many of the building structures remain unchanged, such as the Dinger Building located at the left corner, the businesses have certainly evolved. There are now day spas, hair-and-nail salons, Perogi Island, and a corner store anchored by Metro by T-Mobile. One feature that brings this street into 2025, moving it away from its small-town charm, is the presence of large utility cables running along the south side of the street,"
