More than 50 military helmets have been unearthed close to the University of Wrocaw's Institute of Archaeology, primarily of German origin, including M35, M42, and M16 models. These helmets, discovered during construction work, were likely stored in an outbuilding of the barracks previously occupied by the 8th Signal Battalion. They were not intended for direct combat, suggesting their use was more aligned with air and fire defense strategy during the World Wars. The helmets will be evaluated for preservation by the Lower Silesian conservator.
The newly discovered helmets, found close to the Institute of Archaeology, offer a glimpse into the military history of the region during both World Wars.
These helmets, mainly from the German military, were likely stored as protective gear for air defense rather than for direct combat use.
