A hoard of 11th century coins was discovered at Sizewell C, containing 321 silver coins from 1036 to 1044, wrapped in decomposed textile and lead sheeting.
The hoard indicates that the person who buried it likely aimed for a convenient retrieval spot, as it lies at the intersection of two medieval boundary lines.
The coins primarily issued during the reigns of Harold I, Harthacnut, and Edward the Confessor, represent savings possibly belonging to a prosperous local farmer.
Although not of enormous individual value, collectively the hoard could have bought 16 cows, reflecting the wealth of its former owner.
