Underserved Students Face Highest Admissions Anxiety
Briefly

A new report from Art & Science Group reveals that high school seniors from lower-income backgrounds face higher levels of anxiety during the college admissions process. According to the report, 89% of students reported experiencing moderate to severe anxiety related to college applications, with first-generation and low-income students reporting the most significant stress. High demands of application deadlines and concerns about future job prospects exacerbate these feelings, indicating that for these students, the journey to college is fraught with additional challenges even before enrollment.
Students from underprivileged backgrounds experience significantly more stress during the college search and admissions process than their wealthier peers, including higher levels of anxiety around deadlines.
The report reveals that anxiety is particularly high among first-generation and low-income students, with many rating their application stress at eight or above on a ten-point scale.
