"With this gift, Mr. Shaich is supporting what he recognizes to be difficult yet absolutely necessary changes to propel Clark into a new chapter of sustained vibrancy and excellence,"
"Clark gave me an extraordinary gift. It was a powerful place to grow and evolve,"
"It was at Clark that I discovered who I am and what I love doing - solving problems."
"Over the years, I've come to believe a Clark education is powerfully different. At far too many schools, students are taught what to think. Clark is an exception, because Clark taught us how to think,"
Ron Shaich, a 1976 Clark University graduate and longtime trustee, donated $20 million to Clark University as the institution's largest single gift to implement strategic planning initiatives. The donation consists of a mix of endowed and expendable funds to support enrollment and financial aid initiatives, raise the visibility of the new School of Climate, Environment, and Society, enhance the student experience, and support faculty and programs in key institutional focus areas. Shaich founded a student-run community store at Clark, later founded Panera Bread, and has invested in several other food and hospitality businesses.
