Michigan St. receives $290M donation for athletics
"Their investment in both the university and the future of Spartan Athletics reflects a bold, shared vision for excellence and innovation,"
"This moment will have a profound impact on generations of Spartans, and we are honored by their confidence in MSU."
"In today's evolving college athletics landscape, this is a monumental day in the history of Michigan State Athletics,"
"Greg and Dawn's commitment will provide the resources required for new levels of competitive excellence and student-athlete opportunities, while charting a new path for the Spartan Athletics enterprise."
Greg and Dawn Williams committed $401 million to Michigan State University, allocating $290 million to the athletic department's $1 billion fundraising campaign and an additional $100 million to Spartan Ventures, a nonprofit established to raise funds for athletics. The donation aims to strengthen athletic programs, expand student-athlete opportunities, and position teams competitively amid changes in college sports. Athletic director J Batt replaced coach Jonathan Smith with a $30-plus million buyout and hired Pat Fitzgerald on a five-year, $30 million incentive-laden contract. Greg Williams is co-founder and CEO of Acrisure, a company that purchased naming rights to the Pittsburgh Steelers' stadium.
