
More colleges and universities are using AI tools to review applications, but most lack specific policies for AI use in admissions. A consumer protection group released a general framework to guide responsible and ethical integration of AI in college application evaluation. The framework is part of the SHAPE AI initiative and follows the release of a Student AI Bill of Rights focused on transparency, fairness, human oversight, privacy, and safety. The guidelines aim to help admissions offices reduce risks from uninformed AI deployment, including bias, reduced applicant trust, and legal and ethical concerns.
