An Alum Gifts Hampden-Sydney $50M for Scholarships
"The education I received here didn't just prepare me for a career-it prepared me for life," he said in a statement. "This College gave me the tools, the discipline, and the values that have guided me in every chapter since. Cindy and I believe deeply in Hampden-Sydney's mission to form good men and good citizens, and we're honored to help provide that same opportunity to the next generation ... The Citrone Scholars Program ensures that future generations of talented young men will carry those values forward-with the education, support, and opportunity to lead lives of purpose and impact."
"The Citrones' latest investment comes in a year when Hampden-Sydney is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding and the College's remarkable legacy of forming good men and good citizens-the kind of leaders our world needs," Stimpert said. "It puts additional momentum behind the College and ensures that Hampden-Sydney will enter its second quarter-millennium from a position"
Hampden-Sydney College received a gift exceeding $50 million from alumnus Rob Citrone and his wife, Cindy, to establish the Citrone Scholars Program. The program will provide full-tuition, merit-based four-year scholarships to qualifying prospective students at the all-male liberal arts college in Virginia. Rob Citrone, a 1987 graduate, earned an M.B.A. at the University of Virginia, founded Discovery Capital Management, and serves on the college's Board of Trustees. Citrone credited the college with shaping him as a thinker, leader, and person and emphasized forming good men and good citizens. President Larry Stimpert acknowledged the gift and noted prior gifts supported research and new programs. The donation coincides with the college's 250th anniversary and is intended to strengthen momentum entering its next quarter-millennium.
