Healthcare unions have halted their scheduled work-to-rule action after productive talks with the Health Service Executive (HSE). The proposed deal, subject to ballot by nurses and midwives, aims to address issues of understaffing and the reliance on agency workers. HSE CEO Bernard Gloster expressed relief over the evasion of disruption, highlighting that the agreement includes provisions for reviewing vacancies, boosting recruitment, and prioritizing teamwork on staffing decisions, ensuring better operational integrity across health services.
Threatened disruption to the health services which had been due to start tomorrow has been averted following agreement at the Workplace Relations Commission between the HSE, Department of Health and health service unions.
Over 80,000 health service workers including nurses were set to begin a work-to-rule tomorrow in a row over understaffing and the use of agency workers to plug gaps.
