A Kaiser Permanente systems outage has pharmacies relying on pen and paper
Briefly

Kaiser Permanente is facing a large-scale system outage that has affected its hospitals and pharmacies. This issue has led to the temporary reversion to pen and paper for prescription filling, significantly slowing down service across various departments. An alert to residents in Northern California highlighted disruptions to applications critical to patient care, including health records, labs, and radiology. Reports indicate that the outages extend beyond one region, prompting apologies for inconvenience and assurances that services would be restored promptly, though it has significantly affected patient experience already.
We are currently experiencing intermittent network interruptions with some of our applications, including the system that runs our electronic health records.
Additionally, some of our pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and call center systems are experiencing intermittent interruptions.
Staffers at the pharmacy warned about long wait times, saying it could take an hour to fill a simple prescription.
Kaiser Permanente has also been replying to users on X, saying that it is "aware of the system outages."
