STIs Are Increasing In Many Regions, New WHO Report Finds
Briefly

HIV, viral hepatitis, and STIs collectively cause about 2.5 million deaths and 1.2 million cases of cancer annually, with STI notifications increasing and new infections not declining fast enough.
WHO found that case notifications of STIs are rising, and new HIV and viral hepatitis infections are not decreasing rapidly. Hepatitis-related deaths rose from 1.1 million in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2022.
Global response is off-track to meet 2025 targets to reduce new HIV and viral hepatitis cases, with 3.5 million new cases annually in 2022. Significant acceleration of effort is needed to achieve targets.
