"With so many employers offering remote or hybrid working arrangements and the increase in exposure to digital devices across all facets of our lives, screen time continues to increase for many individuals - even if they don't work behind a desk. Many patients are telling their optometrists that they are struggling with the impacts of increased screen time."
"Most employers are aware of the growing problem, and 87% of HR leaders admit their company should do more to help employees protect their eyes. But only around a third of workers say their company encourages eye breaks or provides education about how to minimize visual discomfort."
Desk workers now spend over 90% of their waking hours on screens, averaging 99.2 hours per week according to the third annual Workplace Vision Health Report. Seventy-one percent report screen-related eye strain affecting their performance, with workers losing nearly a full day of productivity weekly. Remote and hybrid work arrangements have intensified digital device exposure across all life facets. While 87% of HR leaders acknowledge their companies should do more to protect employee vision, only about one-third of workers report receiving eye break encouragement or visual discomfort education. Employers face mounting pressure to address this growing occupational health challenge through enhanced benefits and workplace practices.
