RFK Jr.'s raspy voice is the result of a condition called spasmodic dysphonia. What is it?
Briefly

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has lived with spasmodic dysphonia, a rare neurological condition causing involuntary voice spasms, for many years. He shared his experience on public platforms, expressing frustration over his voice quality and the condition's impact on communication. Affected individuals, approximately 50,000 in North America, often receive Botox injections as a treatment. Kennedy has received such treatments every four months and candidly admitted his dislike for his own voice. With approaching Senate hearings regarding his nomination for secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, he continues to navigate the challenges posed by this disorder.
I have a tremble in my voice particularly when I first start talking. Earlier in my career, I received suggestions from people that I might have spasmodic dysphonia.
My voice doesn't really get tired. It just sounds terrible. But the injury is neurological, so the more I use the voice, the stronger it tends to get.
