Consumers of marijuana face health risks due to potential contaminants like pesticides and heavy metals found in products. State regulators are currently working to manage product safety, but differing regulations across states create a complex landscape. Research indicates that while over 600 contaminants are recognized for regulation in approximately 30 states, only 60-120 are usually tested in each jurisdiction. As cannabis remains illegal federally, establishing comprehensive safety standards remains challenging, complicating efforts to protect consumers.
So a pesticide that might prompt one state to pull cannabis off the shelf, another state might not even be looking for.
We found that there are over 600 contaminants that are regulated across some 30 states that had legalized cannabis at that time.
