Health of people who are displaced in their own countries is a neglected global crisis
Briefly

By the end of 2023, around 43 million refugees existed globally, while roughly 68 million were displaced internally due to armed conflicts and violence, indicating a deepening crisis.
For years, internal displacement has lacked the attention it deserves. Between 2010 and 2019, funding for internally displaced healthcare dropped from $5.34 to $3.72 per capita, highlighting severe inequity.
Despite a significantly higher number of internally displaced individuals, health research has largely favored refugees, with 15-20 times more studies published on refugee health than on internally displaced health.
Addressing this imbalance is crucial. The international community must redirect resources and focus to improve health outcomes and prevent epidemics among internally displaced populations.
