The study found that babies conceived via assisted reproductive technology, particularly IVF, have a significantly higher risk of developing major heart defects compared to those conceived naturally.
Lead study author Ulla-Britt Wennerholm noted, 'We wanted to investigate whether the risk of heart defects was higher for babies born following assisted reproduction,' emphasizing ongoing concerns over preterm birth and low birth weight.
Wennerholm further stated, 'Knowing which babies are at the greatest risk can help us diagnose heart defects as early as possible and ensure the right care and treatment are given,' highlighting the potential for timely interventions.
