At-home cervical screening tests offered in England
Briefly

NHS England is introducing at-home cervical screening tests for women aged 25 to 64 who delay screening. These DIY kits will be available from January and include a swab to test for human papillomavirus (HPV), a major cause of cervical cancer. Currently, only 68.8% of women participate in screenings, falling short of the 80% target. The initiative intends to address various barriers to screening such as embarrassment and time constraints. With successful trials suggesting a potential increase in screening to 77%, the program aims to improve early cancer detection and save lives.
This new initiative from NHS England aims to boost cervical screening rates by offering home testing kits to women who have delayed their screenings.
Home test kits for HPV, provided in discreet packaging with prepaid return postage, will target the over five million women who are currently not up to date.
