Recent research by the University of Notre Dame has found that many smartwatch and fitness tracker bands contain high levels of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as 'forever chemicals.' The study analyzed 22 different bands and discovered that 15 contained PFAS, with some showing concentrations significantly higher than typical levels found in products like cosmetics. Given that these devices are worn continuously and in direct contact with the skin, concerns about potential health risks associated with dermal absorption of these chemicals are growing, especially during physical activity.
Smartwatch and fitness tracker bands may contain alarming levels of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), raising serious health concerns for users.
