Following a surge in demand due to issues with Google Cloud Platform, Railway temporarily throttled software builds for lower-tier users to maintain service for higher-tier customers. Angelo Saraceno from Railway explained that this straining of platform resources led to a service degradation approach, prioritizing Pro customers while pausing deployments for Trial and Hobby users. The company noted that this was a temporary measure aimed at ensuring quality and that feedback is being gathered to improve user expectations. The situation has since been resolved, ensuring that only limited users were affected.
For these users, we operate on a best-effort basis, as defined in our Terms of Service - with the group of users affected, relying on the ToS alone isn't enough.
Railway has seen significant workload growth, particularly from users migrating off GCP [Google Cloud Platform] and Heroku.
Angelo Saraceno addressed that the throttling was necessary to maintain service quality for Pro customers during unexpected demand.
The situation has since been resolved per the company's status page, highlighting that customer needs are being prioritized.
