Michael Ezzell's artwork breathes new life into abandoned books, merging visual artistry with literary nostalgia. His project, The Junior Classic, repurposes neglected texts into vibrant scenes reminiscent of surrealist masterpieces and timeless children's tales. Ezzell's unique style draws on a range of inspirations, from Greek and Roman mythology to tarot imagery, crafting collages that invite viewers into whimsical worlds. This creative process not only honors the past but also redefines these objects, encouraging imagination and escapism, akin to a modern-day reverie.
When I'm at antique stores, I now search for weird and obscure manuals, or children's books with lots of pictures or funky text formatting.
It was a way of re-imagining an object that no longer served its singular purpose, turning it into a portal to another realm.
