Lucian Barbu merges art and illustration through a playful and imaginative lens, exploring themes of dreams, activism, and joyful childhood memories.
My creative influences are all over the place. The direction of my work often comes from strong fixations on particular topics, such as circle creatures and forest pixies.
I adapt to whatever technique feels best for the project, be it digital or analogue. In personal practice, I prefer traditional methods like coloured pencils and gouache.
I often revisit childhood subjects – like actors' costumes in plays I wrote about nature – which profoundly influences my recent work with whimsical characters.
