A four-foot-tall, purple egg appeared outside the Chase Center, generating buzz amid ongoing publicity issues for the WNBA. The Golden State Valkyries are attempting to divert attention from recent incidents involving lime-green dildos thrown onto the court. A wildlife expert humorously claimed the egg displays characteristics of a real biological egg. In a press release, the Valkyries confirmed the egg is part of a marketing campaign for Bird Watchers Night, which includes binoculars for fans during the game against the Connecticut Sun.
"This is a very large egg. An ostrich egg is probably 10 inches at best, eight inches. This is five feet," wildlife expert Kenny Elvin told KGO.
"I've looked at it, I've smelled it, I've listened to it. It definitely has a heartbeat. It could hatch. It could hatch."
The Valkyries sent out a press release more or less acknowledging that this is all some marketing nonsense.
All fans will receive binoculars for the Bird Watchers Night, courtesy of DoorDash.
